Our next virtual meetup is scheduled for Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 8 am Central via Zoom.
Uh oh! You and your scrum team are minding your own business, charging forward and looking on-track. All of the sudden, upper management comes in out of nowhere with a high priority work item that threatens to derail the sprint entirely…
What now? It’s time for the Product Owner to pull aggro!
In other words, it’s time for the Product Owner to appropriately deal with this request, so this dragonlord…err…abrupt stakeholder request doesn’t end up eating…I mean…derailing your development team.
Believe it or not, the division of responsibilities in a well-run scrum team actually map quite well to tasks common in multiplayer role-playing games. This discussion will dive into the what, why, and how of scrum teams as a RPG battle party. In addition, several ways to gamify the process of learning Agile and Scrum in new ways will be showcased – including an actual video game written as part of a hackathon to teach folks of all levels about the 12 Agile principles.
Parts of this talk were presented in Japanese language at Scrum Fest Osaka last year, which had gaming as a main theme.
Michael “Miggs” Migliacio is a Lead Software Engineering Coach for Target’s Ryse coaching team. When he isn’t helping teams learn new software engineering tricks, techniques, and new ways of working, you can find him volunteering with local organizations related to Japanese language and culture, finishing up his Masters of Computer Science at Georgia Tech, and fighting for the future of the realm of Eorzea as a Red Mage in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.
